Made from two vintage quilts, this one-of-one jacket brings together two very different textile histories. The soft cream quilt creates a beautifully quiet backdrop, while the front and lower sleeves are pieced from an extremely old patchwork quilt, rich with mismatched fabrics, handwork, visible stitching and years of wear.
That older quilt came to me with significant worn areas, fraying, fading and patches. Rather than disguising its age, I chose to preserve many of these imperfections. They are evidence of the quilt’s previous life and, to me, are what give this jacket its character. No two sections are alike.
Deep green binding frames the patchwork and contrasts beautifully against the cream quilted back, while two oversized cream patch pockets add a practical finishing touch.
This piece is intentionally imperfect — worn, mended, aged and given another chapter rather than made to look new.
One of one. Made from two quilts - one that was made in 1920’s and other from a modern quilt. Made in Toronto.
Size: S/M
Material: Cotton, wool and polyester
Care:
Because of the age and delicate condition of the original patchwork quilt, this garment should be treated with extra care. Hand wash only in cold water with a small amount of mild detergent. Do not soak, wring, bleach or tumble dry. Gently reshape and lay flat to air dry.
* Please note: existing worn areas, fraying, visible repairs, irregular stitching, fading and imperfections are intentional and have been retained as part of the garment’s design and history. With continued wear, some areas may naturally evolve further over time.
