About Us
Born Yesterday is a small, Canadian, female-owned slow fashion studio based in Toronto-- built on a love of colour, appreciation for textiles and a dedication to living sustainability, and a desire to tread lightly.
I'm a mother of three, and with my youngest starting school this year, I finally had the space to ask: What now?
I've always had a love for thrifting, reusing, re-wearing, and repurposing clothing and materials -- for as long as I can remember. Sewing came early too, thanks to my mom who taught me everything from hand stitching to quilting. Though my degree is in kinesiology and health science, I've always been pulled toward creating.
A few years ago, I thrifted a t-shirt and a saree dress and stitched together a one-of-a-kind tank top dress. It lit a creative spark I couldn't ignore. Last year, I started experimenting with upcycled mittens and quilted bags -- and in November 2024, Born Yesterday was born.
Creating each and every piece feeds my soul in a way I never knew existed. I am so very lucky to have found this creative outlet! Every item is designed and created by me in small batches using vintage and pre-loved textiles-- designed to be loved, worn, and passed on.
The Heart Behind Born Yesterday
Even though I’ve loved thrifting, sewing, and repurposing since I was young, Born Yesterday didn’t begin as a business idea — it began as a feeling.
A quiet moment when I realized I couldn’t keep participating in the cycle of fast fashion.
Not after seeing how much beauty, history, and skill were hiding inside textiles that people were throwing away.
The more I collected vintage quilts, blankets, denim, and forgotten materials, the more I felt their weight — not just physically, but emotionally.
These pieces weren’t garbage.
They were memories.
They were labour.
They were stories worth saving.
That’s when my work shifted.
I wasn’t just upcycling anymore —
I was carrying stories forward, giving materials a second life, and designing one-of-one garments that could never be repeated.
Born Yesterday grew from that moment:
a slow fashion studio rooted in care, intention, and the belief that the past isn’t disposable — it just needs someone to give it a future.
We're not here to chase trends. We're here to make beautiful, intentional clothing that is kind to the planet.
For ourselves. For the earth. For those who care about their impact.
